Between 1853 and 1870 Baron Haussmann modernized PARIS (5th wave) and the production of the Saint Maximin quarries multiplied.
Napoleon III ordered the Baron to create large, straight avenues, lined with trees and luxurious buildings in dressed stone.
Modern facilities were built from Saint-Maximin stone: Paris’ great railway stations, the Opera, the headquarters of Crédit Lyonnais, and the big department stores.
